Varun (Vijay Deverakonda) is a spoiled young man who has no interest in the political life of his corrupt father (Nasir). Suddenly his father gets a shock, and Varun is made the CM of the state for a temporary period. In the beginning, Varun takes things in a silly way, but a small incident causes Varun to change his mind and commit to his work, which his father did not like. The rest of the story is how Varun fights his father and eventually continues as the CM of the state.
Plus Points:
The film has some realistic political scenarios depicting the politics of Tamil Nadu and is portrayed quite fearlessly.
Vijay Deverakonda is the biggest plus point of the film as his excellent acting gives freshness to this regular political thriller film. Vijay is well executed as the CM in the film.
Nasir's role as a politician is perfect as his role carries a lot of weight and makes things interesting whenever he is on screen.
Such a political thriller needs a strong supporting cast and this character is present in NOTA film.
Sathyaraj plays his lead role well and supports Vijay throughout the film.
The characters are kept real, so the whole political set-up seems reassuring.
Minus Points:
Vijay's fans will be a little disappointed as Vijay has got very less action sequences in this film. The makers had a good scope to show Vijay in a more aggressive manner but he missed it.
Flashbacks of Nasir and Sathyaraj do not add any weight to the film.
Mehreen's role looks out of place and is disappointing.
Another biggest disadvantage is the story of the film. Such stories have been made earlier in films like Leader and Bharat Ane Nenu. Such twists are quite old for the Telugu audience.
The second half is not that entertaining and this is where the film goes down. Due to which Vijay goes against his father and he decides to fight corruption.
Decision:
Overall, NOTA is a regular political film that Hindi audiences have seen before in Bharat Aane Nenu Aur Leader. The audience will love the film as the tastes, sensibilities and satire are quite relatable. And one can only be given a shot to see Vijay in a new avatar.
